A Cozy Bakery Café in Tokyo
While looking for a nice spot to stop by in Tokyo, I discovered a charming bakery café. In this article, I’ll share what makes this café so special, including its unique bakery space and menu highlights. It’s the perfect spot for those who want to enjoy authentic Japanese-style pastries in a stylish, modern atmosphere.
Bakery bank
Whether you’re heading out for work or running errands, taking a short break at a pleasant café can be a simple way to refresh your mood. Small stops like this—good coffee, warm bread, or even sunlight through a window—can make an ordinary day feel a little more balanced and enjoyable.
If you’re looking for a cozy café in Tokyo to enjoy fresh pastries and coffee, Bakery Bank is a great option. This bakery café was created by renovating a space that used to house a bank, which is why it’s called “Bank.”
In particular, the olive tree serves as the café’s symbol and creates a welcoming atmosphere.

Inside the Café
Inside, a display case showed off a variety of delicious breads, and there were a few small table sets scattered around. The back part of the café served as a restaurant, and the bakery had an open kitchen where they prepared fresh pastries. Large wooden-framed windows let bright sunlight fill the interior, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. You can order coffee alongside breads and pastries and enjoy them at the small table sets.
I visited around 1:00 p.m. on a weekday. There was a wide selection of breads available, and there were two tables for two, both of which were empty. If the upstairs seating is full, you can take your bread downstairs and enjoy it in the café space in the basement.
Quick Tip: Tax Rate
In Japan, the tax rate usually differs depending on whether you dine in or take out—10% for dining in and 8% for takeout—so it’s important to let the staff know your choice. If you are asked whether you’ll be “dining in” or “taking out,” it may also imply these practical reasons.
Coffee break
Since I had lunch elsewhere, I decided to enjoy an iced café latte here. The aroma of the espresso and the smooth milk chilled over ice made a delicious combination that I imagined would go well with the bread. Thinking back about coffee like this made me crave one, so I’m now making a café latte and writing this article while enjoying it.
The café opens at 8:00 a.m., making it a great option for breakfast. It’s also perfect for coffee breaks or light snacks.

Menu Highlights
- Crème-amann
A rich, caramelized pastry filled with homemade custard cream. A good choice if you enjoy sweet, indulgent pastries. - Melonpan
A classic Japanese sweet bun with a soft inside and lightly crunchy crust. You can choose it with or without custard cream. - Sourdough Rouge
A sourdough bread with red berries and nuts, offering a pleasant tang. Especially good with butter.
Final Thoughts
This variety of breads—from basic Western-style loaves to Japanese-style creations with unique café twists—is what makes this café so special. The prices might seem high for a bakery café by Japanese standards, but the pleasant atmosphere makes it worth a visit for a coffee break. If you happen to be in the area, I’d definitely recommend it as a great option. This time, I didn’t go down to the basement, but I heard it also serves as a restaurant and sells decor and lifestyle goods. I hope to visit that area as well someday.
Tips for Choosing Your Treats
Many items are easy to take out and enjoy on the go. For those with a sweet tooth, I recommend trying the Japanese-style melonpan filled with the café’s homemade custard cream. Just imagining the combination of the crispy surface and the whipped cream inside brings me a sense of sweet happiness. For something savory, the croissant sandwiches are very popular. If we could have both something sweet and something savory for lunch, I’m sure both you and I would be completely satisfied!
